About Blomberg Lake Wildlife Management Area

Blomberg Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is located in Oneida County in northern Wisconsin and encompasses about 1,583 acres of protected land. The area features a significant peat bog—Blomberg Lake Bog—surrounded by a mix of northern hardwoods, pine forests, and wetlands. The bog is a rare and ecologically important type of wetland hosting unique bog plant species such as bog rosemary, pitcher plants, and sundews, which thrive in the acidic soils. The WMA supports diverse wildlife including white-tailed deer, black bears, beavers, and a variety of waterfowl and songbirds, making it a notable destination for nature enthusiasts and hunters alike.

The WMA was established to protect important wetland habitats, promote biodiversity, and provide opportunities for public outdoor recreation including hiking, hunting, and wildlife viewing. Visitors can explore the area on several rustic trails and boardwalks designed for low-impact access to the bog and surrounding forested wetlands. Blomberg Lake itself offers fishing and paddling opportunities during warmer months, while the area transforms into a quiet snowshoeing and cross-country skiing destination in the winter. Its relatively remote setting and intact natural habitats appeal to those seeking peace and solitude in a natural Wisconsin landscape.

The WMA is managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which maintains facilities and access points while conserving the wetland’s unique ecological features. Seasonal water level fluctuations in the bog and surrounding marshes contribute to the area's dynamic aquatic and terrestrial habitats. The combination of forest, bog, and lake environments provides visitors with varied scenery and wildlife viewing potential throughout the year.
